Recently, I needed to reset my Zoom “B1X Four” since I messed up some settings on the system. When resetting the device, I noticed that a newer firmware (version 2.0) was available on the web. Hence, I downloaded the firmware upgrade tool and registered everything as described in the instructions. The device was detected by the Windows OS. After the driver was installed, the device could be selected within the firmware upgrade tool.
However, when I started the update procedure, the tool showed the message “illegal device detected”.
Solution to the problem: I revisited the support website and noticed that I had downloaded the wrong firmware upgrade tool, since there are separate tools for the “B1 Four” and the “B1X Four” models. Choosing the right tool led to a smooth upgrade of the firmware.
